"Hayes has created a majestic blend of richly textured acoustic guitars and subtle synthesized sounds that cross musical boundries as varied as New Age, jazz, folk and Celtic with comparative ease." (Relix Magazine) David Hayes is better known for his work as a sideman to many musicians and bands though, including Terry Dolan/Terry & The Pirates, Van Morrison, Southside Johnny and the Ashbury Jukes, Jesse Colin Young, Dirk Hamilton, Ian Matthews, Country Joe McDonald - to name a few. Subsequently his bass playing can be found on many albums and although his main instrument is the bass, he also plays guitar and other instruments on some albums. At the end of the 80s/early 90s he recorded one album in co-operation with Mark Springer and three solo albums. The Hayes/Springer Brotherhood album 'Sneaker Waves' features some well know musicians from the Bay Area like Pee Wee Ellis, Greg Elmore and the late Chris Michie and Nicky Hopkins. Other musicians include Ric Wilson and Bill Lee Lewis who would team up ten years later with Johnny Colla as his Lucky Devils.

On his solo albums David focused more on instrumentals and shifted away from lyrics. His instrumentals do work very good without lyrics and the few times he added vocals some critics even argued that he should have better not sung - simply because he is no singer. Be this as it may, the true fact that David Hayes got the chance to release his own music is remarkable - not many 'sidemen' get the chance to do so. More of this wouldn't be bad. David is also a talented painter and all cover paintings on his three solo albums are his work.
After many years David has released his fourth solo album in 2007. The new CD is entitled "Soul Diver" and features eleven new tracks and three bonus tracks, i.e. a selection of his best music. All of the new tracks are very well recorded and one immediately starts dreaming. Even David's vocals are better than ever. All in all a wonderful soundtrack to relax after a long day. Especially songs like "Tell Me Tell Me" make one wish that David will not need another fourteen years to come up with his next album.
David also started a website where you can contact him and buy the CD. You will also find a link to downloaded the album underneath. So please follow the links below and support another outstanding Bay Area artist.
