Greg Douglass plays guitar for more than 30 years now and this here is no attempt to cover these years in full detail. Nevertheless it is an attempt to throw some more light on one of the most important Bay Area guitarists. Greg has been a member of many bands, toured and recorded with various of them: Terry Dolan & The Pirates, Steve Miller Band, Greg Kihn Band, Eddie Money, Van Morrison, Tom Johnston, Peter Rowan, John Cipollina, Hot Tuna, Country Joe McDonald - to name a few.

Greg's career started somewhere during the 60s in a band called 'The Virtues' which turned into 'Country Weather'. Both bands played covers and 'Country Weather' also played original music. Despite their local following they failed to succeed. Nevertheless they played venues like the Avalon and the Fillmore before they disbanded in the early 70s. Had Greg 'only' been the guitar player in these bands - he would front the next.

'Mistress' could really work the crowd at live shows and got very good reviews. Somehow this also didn't result in a record deal - although a demo tape was cut. Tension within the band finally caused them to break up. Greg left and found new friends in Terry Dolan and John Cipollina. This would make him a member in Terry's band and over the years almost naturally include him into many of Cipollina's bands. Greg also became involved with Sound Hole and went on tour with Van Morrison. During the late seventies Greg was a member of the Steve Miller Band and also of the Greg Kihn Band. Luckily the demo tape Mistress recorded at Wally Heider's in 1973 was relased 23 years later by the German Taxim label in 1996. Taxim also released Greg's first solo album 'Maelstrom' in 1993. Greg plays acoustic guitar on this album. Confusing for some who only knew Greg for his outstanding electric guitar work (Steve Miller). In 2000 Greg's new passion for acoustic fingerstyle pickin' led to the release of 'The Natives Are Restless'. This album had already been recorded by 1997 but Greg only sold his guitar instrumentals on tape. Overwhelming response from his fans finally made him release the CD by himself. A good decision because the CD probably showcases the best thing he has ever recorded. The CD can be ordered exclusively over Greg's website - just follow the link at the end of this page.

During the 2001 Christmas season Greg recorded some acoustic guitar versions of his favorite holiday songs. Friends and fans who got some homegrown CDs from Greg loved it and Greg decided to remaster what he had and released the properly mastered CD "Holiday Favorites" at the end of 2003.
